Artist Statement

I have always loved creating things, but when I was exposed clay in college, an entirely new relationship opened up for me between material, form and function. With clay I could design, craft, test, and refine beautiful objects that serve a purpose. As I continued to make work in my post-college years, my forms began to reach a stage of metamorphosis and graduated from looking technically proficient to having more feeling and sense of animation. You will see my wares from 2013 are not perfectly symmetrical, but look as though they could at any moment come to life.

Second to my pottery work, in 2013 I also began to expand my exploration of mask-making with clay as well. This, too, went through an evolution and I began making robotic-like masks. Even a few characters!

As you scroll through the Gallery I hope you enjoy this collection of works, both my 3D and 2D work.
